ABUJA, 30 March 2022 - The Embassy participated incommemorating the 2022 International Women's Month by organizing an event with the ASEAN Ladies Circle (ALC) Abuja, in partnership with the ASEAN Committee in Abuja (ACA). The three-hour event event, dubbed “Taste of ASEAN Food”, was held at the Indonesian Ambassador’s Residence, and featured good food and music. A buffet of popular local dishes representing the cuisines of the five (5) ASEAN countries with diplomatic missions in Nigeria – Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, and the Philippines– constituted the lunch offerings.

A solo vocal performance by the Ambassador of Indonesia H.E. Dr. H. Usra Hendra Harahap, and dance performances by the Indonesian Women Association entertained the guests. Short presentations on the history of the dishes prepared by each ASEAN country were also shown for the guests to better appreciate the food.
The Philippine Embassy’s food offerings
For its part, the Philippines contributed five (5) dishes (chicken adobo, beef Bicol express, pancit bihon, lumpia, and puto at kutsinta) to add to the buffet of tasty Southeast Asian food. There was also an impromptu song number sung by Post’s staff to contribute to the event’s entertainment.

In attendance were the Ambassador of Indonesia and Mrs. Nenny Harahap, who is currently the Chairperson of the ALC; the Ambassador of Malaysia H.E. Gloria Tiwet and spouse; diplomatic personnel, staff, and spouses of the five (5) ASEAN countries; guests from different missions, including the Ambassador of South Korea H.E. Young-Chae Kim and spouse, the Ambassador of Venezuela H.E. David N. Velasques and spouse, and various other dignitaries. The guest of honor was Mrs. Sulola Onyeama, spouse of H.E. Geoffrey Onyeama, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Nigeria. - END
