24 July 2013 - The Philippine Embassy in Abuja, Nigeria informed the Department of Foreign Affairs that the Filipino community in Freetown, Sierra Leone commemorated the 115th Philippine Independence day in the capital city, Freetown, on June 23.
The celebration commenced with a thanksgiving mass officiated by Father Dominador D. Mercado, Jr., one of the Filipino missionaries belonging to the Agustinian Recollects order in Sierra Leone.
After the mass, lunch was served with sumptuous Filipino foods. During the lunch each attendee was requested to deliver a brief speech. The parlor games and karaoke competition animated the event. The jubilant celebration in Freetown was marked by great camaraderie and unity among Filipinos in Sierra Leone.
The venue of the celebration was the premises of the Mission House of Agustinian Recollects in Freetown. END
